31…30…

2012 Black Women’s Life Balance and Wellness Conference, July 13-15, 2012 in Atlanta, GA

Wow, about a month to go before I am the BIG 3-0!  I have never been a party person so I don’t think I will celebrate my birthday by throwing a big party or having a get-together. Last year, I celebrated my 29th birthday by presenting at the Black Women’s Life Balance and Wellness Conference in Atlanta, GA.  This year I am not presenting, but am on the planning committee and if you are a black woman reading this blog, YOU SHOULD ATTEND! And, if you are not a black woman, forward this blog and/or the web site (lifebalanceconference.com to any black women you KNOW!

So, for 3-0, I still trying to decide how to celebrate.  It’s hard to do when you’ve achieved many of your life goals: traveled to 4 continents including Africa, nearly earned your PhD, lost 100lbs, joined the best sorority on the planet, and bought your dream car (hey Tux!!!). I don’t really need anything; don’t really want anything.  Well, I’ll just have to keep thinking about it, I guess. :-)

So, nutrition and exercise-wise, the last few days have been really great.  Lost some water weight and I getting back to that place where I just feel good on the inside.  I just love that feeling.  It’s the feeling I get after my body has detoxed all of the bad stuff.  You just feel clear in your digestive track.  I don’t know how else to describe it.

Today in class this morning, we again focused on cardio and I found out from my trainer that the next few weeks will be cardio-focused–bummer!  But, he also said that he would vary up the cardio we do so that it won’t all be leg based (Praise Jesus because my legs were on fire ALL last week!).  So, today we got to have some fun with the truck tire (see photo above). Instead of the mallet in the picture, we used a 10lb baseball back to whack the heck out of the tire for intervals.  This was so much fun!

But it also reminded me of my strength and power–which I had forgotten I had.  When you start a new fitness program and no one really knows your past (like no one knows that I deadlifted 165lbs), everyone wants you to go slow; they are testing you.  Well, I know my strength and power and today I exhibited just a small portion of it during the workout.  My trainer was definitely surprised with my intensity.  It’s only week two…wait until week 12. LOL

Yesterday I did a double, worked out in the am and went back in the pm–I just didn’t feel like the am session was intense enough, especially in the strength training area.  So, I might do a double again today.  We’ll see how I feel later.

:-)
