Happy Valentine’s Day! You are a star.

You are a star!

Hi all!  It’s been a couple of weeks since I’ve been in The Yellow Space!  My personal chef client went out of town!  However, during the past two weeks, I have been testing some easy crock pot creations.  In the coming week, I will share those with you, so stay tuned!

Today, however, I’d like to share with you an excerpt from a magazine article that I shared with my accountability group.  Although the message was written for an African-American female audience, I believe all women can benefit from realizing that they, indeed, are stars. “You are a star.”
Excerpt from “Letter from the Editor”
March 2012 Essence, pg 20.

“We must keep reminding ourselves that we are the writers, the directors, the producers of our own lives.  We have the power to shape our stories and garner our own accolades.  So, today please do yourself a favor and another Black woman a favor and treat yourselves like the stars you are.

Sometimes that’s easy to do. Sometimes not.  Responsibilities weigh on us, our “little voices of doubt” get the better of us, and we cede power to someone outside of ourselves.  But a star surrounds herself with a supportive team.  She seeks information that strengthens her purpose and encourages her growth.  She conquers her fears and goes for it.  A star keeps working on her talent, whatever that may be.  She understands there will be rejections and setbacks, but she keeps on trying.

A star knows that she deserves some attention, but she doesn’t need to be in the spotlight all the time.  She knows to measure success by her own yardstick, and that everyone is not as paid as they seems.  She knows that the first few times posing on the red carpet are fun; after that it’s just hard work in tight shoes.  A star understands that she must rest her feet; she must take time “me” time to recharge her spirit before sharing herself and her talent with the world.”

  • How are you being the star in your life?
  • In what ways do you measure your own success?
  • Do you take time to recharge your spirit? If so, when and how?
  • What steps are you taking to create your own satisfying ending?
