This week I am in Madison–I have a few appointments and I am gathering a little research in the archives for the current chapter I am working on. While I am here, I am keeping up my exercise and eating my favorite paleo-friendly foods! For the third time in two weeks, I made Jicama Slaw! LOL It is so yummy. This time I added green and red peppers to this festival of flavors! I am also getting really good at roasting chicken. For some reason the thought of roasting an entire of chicken scared me a little bit. Now, its no biggie. And, each time I make one, it gets better and better! Yesterday, I seasoned the chicken with garlic powder, pepper, and a little natural sea salt. I popped it in the oven at 400 degrees for about 1 hour. This yielded a really juicy, flavorful chicken. So, for the next couple of days, I will be eating my roast chicken and jicama slaw!
Ok, on to the real topic of this post: YOGA!
I am so excited that I am in town to take a yoga class with one of my favorite practitioners: Laura Flanagan. Last summer before I moved back home to Chicago, I took a series of Body Rolling classes with Laura and they were excellent. Body Rolling is a practice that elongates your muscles, giving you space between your bones so that you are less inflamed, less tense, etc. I began Body Rolling to compensate for the toll that boot camp was taking on my joints and muscles. All I can say is that if you are doing rigourous, heavy working out, Body Rolling is an excellent addition to your regime. And, Laura is a wonderful teacher. Her spirit and energy is divine. Check out her schedule to try out Body Rolling.
So, tonight, I am going to Yoga at 7pm. I am really excited and looking forward to the space of meditation that practicing yoga provides. After I took my first yoga class with Laura last summer, I promised that I would begin my own yoga practice. After reading Eat, Pray, Love, I was even more committed, but unfortunately, I did not start my own practice because it was difficult to find a “Laura” in Chicago! Now that I am moving back to Madison, I am so excited about continuing with Laura.
I was thinking this week that fresh radishes would make a nice addition to the slaw. Try it. Body rolling…I will look into it. Enjoy your stay in Madison!
Thanks V!!!! Yoga was great yesterday. And, I will definitely try the radishes in the slaw! I know I’ll probably make it again next week. LOL
ummm… i miss madison? i can’t believe i’m saying that, but you’re post definitely made me think that. (had to do a double take…) it’s a great city to find “laura”s and other great classes for the “mody” (that’s mind & body).
